The Solar Bear
#449553 / vu 647 foisWhat do polar bears do without ice? They spend more and more days on land. There they try to keep themselves alive with berries, garbage and carcasses. Global warming is causing the sea ice in the Arctic to recede. As a result, the polar bear is losing its habitat.
A North American study now shows just how dramatic the situation is for them. Researchers from the Alaska Science Center predict that around 67 percent fewer cubs will be born by 2050. Other researchers assume that a quarter of the males will starve to death if the Arctic Ocean remains ice-free for 180 days a year.
Then the polar bear will become a solar bear
