Necroparliament

Necroparliament

In December 2025, I was reading up on Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe and his concept of necropolitics, whereby institutions, figures and society have the power to kill and let die. Death is an interesting aspect of life in general, and the more I read about Mbembe and other theorists of the subject, the more I realised just how much it applies to the UK. How politics feels stagnant, how there is little cultural momentum to do better than the endless cycle of austerity, corruption, endless wars and xenophobia. Racism is worsening, poverty is increasing and there is little time to spare. Necroparliament aims to spotlight the ways in which this power is wielded in ways that Mbembe described, showcasing how our political comforts allow us all to live and let die. The main gimmick in the series is depicting UK politicians and their parties as various forms of the undead to symbolise this; explanations for what they all mean are described in the initial issues.
