More Road
#88474 / vu 64945 foisMore Road is my tenuous beginning at trying to explore synthasitic forms of communication. You could call More Road a comic, or to be more defined, a graphic poem. I believe there is massive unexplored potential in combining forms of communication to become a deeper exploration of who we are, how we think, why we are here. In More Road I combine poetry, comics, storytelling and symbology. The primary idea is to create a freeform narrative or story. Think of More Road instead of a tunnel with one line to move along, and more as a tree with secondary branches. You follow the brown tube to read the words, and ignore the way you normally read (left to right, up to down). A line can spawn other words which can expand on the original line (a secondary branch), but have nothing particularly to do with the core narrative. The abstract symbols and comic sequences then feed into the words and add another dimension. You could imagine the symbology as the leaves on the tree. It becomes even more fractured when you can link different symbology to different words, even link words that are note connected in the first place.
The result becomes what I call ambient reading, it becomes more unconcious and dreamlike. When I drew More Road I listened to ambient music, so listening to music whilst reading can add to the experience. With ambient reading you have a greater role in the creation of the work (kind of).
More Road is just the tip of the iceberg: all my work will be freely available to view at www.cbeckett.co.uk, where there will also be music with which to listen to whilst viewing the works…
If you have any questions or comments about more road drop me a line at [email protected]. I’m also interested in drawing large scale snythesis pieces on any wall (indoors is better..), so if your interested in that, just contact me. I’m also open to any collaboration (art or music), so give me a shout if your up for that…..
Peace and Synthesis
